The coordinates to magnetic destinations
Latitude and longitude. Both are pointing to a location on earth. So knowing your position tells you where you are.
I have an older model car. So, I don’t use the built-in Geographical Positioning Systems (GPS). It’s a whole lot easier to use my smartphone.
However, I still keep the map screen on and occasionally zoom in and out. Sometimes while I’m sitting in the pick-up line at my son’s school, I’ll look at the colorful dots on the screen to see where I have been.
Those dots are my coordinates and tell a story is about where I have been.
Sometimes it shows I have traveled to many places within and outside my city. Other times, you can only tell I have been only to a school, coffee shop, or Target.
It’s when I use Maps or Google Maps that I chart where I want to go. And then listen to that GPS voice while I navigate the environment.
Coordinates are specific locations. Each mapped coordinate is a step toward your destination.
For any place to become a magnetic destination, there has to be at least:
an accurate read on assets and resources at hand (coordinate 1);
a vision for what could be when those assets and resources are aligned and linked (coordinate 2)
A capital flow structure that will make the vision become a physically built place (coordinate 3)
A story map communicates the people, land, and marketplace opportunities, transforming you into a magnetic destination (coordinate 4).
When these four coordinates are linked, you can navigate the journey from an underperforming place to a magnetic destination.
