In 2022, Place Foundry began a placemaking collaboration with the Rockford Housing Development Corporation (RHDC). This partnership focuses on the South Avon Development, a 15-acre mixed-use development featuring diverse and affordable housing opportunities, an early education center, natural areas, and commercial space.
South Avon results from the One Rockford Initiative, a comprehensive planning and community engagement effort spearheaded by RHDC to promote reinvestment and development in southwest Rockford. With insights from this initiative and continued community engagement, Place Foundry and RHDC have worked to address core issues of housing affordability, educational attainment, environmental justice, and economic development.
